Nikon Landscape Masterclass

Yesterday I ran the Nikon Landscape Masterclass for a group of 6 photographers, the weather was great considering it is Winter in the Blue Mountains. We had students come from as far as Adelaide and Wagga Wagga. It was a great fun group and everyone was already up to speed with their photography.

We kicked off our journey at Perry’s Look down at Blackheath where we discussed Exposure, Aperture, ISO and Shutter Speed. It can be hard to capture landscapes that have such varying dynamic range throughout the scene. We looked at several options to get around the task we faced.

Next stop was The Wind Eroded cave. Here we discussed composition and how we could show the size and beauty of this cave.

We then had a lunch break and chatted about photography. A few little birds came to visit and cameras quickly came to the draw!……The birds won!

Then it was off to Leura Cascades to check out the waterfalls, work with Shutter Speed and with tripods and cameras everywhere aim not to get wet!!

With the sun dropping and jackets getting zipped up we ventured off to Ingar Campground. I love camping at this location and haven’t been there for a while so was very surprised to see the road had been upgraded and we now have ‘real’ street signs

With the sun disappearing behind the Mountains conversation soon went to campfires and coffee. I will be looking at running another Photography Course Sydney Blue Mountains during the day and then continuing into the night to cover some star trails in the near future, people would be welcome to camp out with us and enjoy the campfire coffee while we take some night shots…light painting…star trails….words with sparklers. In our Blue Mountains Photography Courses and our Night Photography Courses Sydney we give you hands on experience and the concepts to learn how to use your camera more effectively and get the most out of your camera. We teach you how to read the light and adjust these settings accordingly to give you a correct exposure and creatively capture your scene based on the light in your scene. I do give you some base settings initially and by the end of the course you will have an understanding of how to apply the concepts and have the tools to troubleshoot the lighting issues you face and then become more creative with your shots. You will understand why an image turns out the way it does instead of ‘stumbling’ across the correct settings for what you are trying to achieve.

It then comes down to like anything in life ‘practice’.

‘Theory without practice is time wasted’
